What’s moving in the studio right now

Hello Reader,

In the Studio: A Quick Check-In

Things are busy in the studio right now. I’m getting ready for a show in March, and most days my home studio is full of crochet pieces in various stages of becoming something.

The installation centers on a gathering of Orishas, ancestors, and shared history, so there’s a lot to keep track of. I rely on lists. What needs the most time? What has the most pieces? What needs to dry the longest? What I can work on while something else sits. It keeps me moving without spinning out.

Another big part of the work is deciding what actually makes it into the exhibit. Which crocheted elements belong? How many are needed? Whether a pattern works as is or needs adjusting. Sometimes that part is very practical. Other times, I just start and see where it goes.

The sketchbook is where things loosen up. That’s where I test ideas, make notes, and let myself play a bit. Not everything there needs to turn into something finished. It just needs space to exist.

Even though it’s winter, things are moving fast. I’m packing and preparing to move into a new studio space, which means sorting, letting go, and making room. It’s a lot, but it feels right.

I’ve been trying to stay focused on what’s in front of me. One thing at a time. The work, the space, the process. That feels like enough right now.

Connect the story to bigger themes (Quote, insert from book, or something profound someone said).

That’s it for now. Back to the studio and probably another cup of tea.
